A photometric analyzer contained in the Biosniffer is programmed to detect the rate of change in bacterial metabolism. During a bioagent release event, the Biosniffer will accumulate an increase in bacterial content into the reagents through air sampling. This increased level of bacteria in the reagents will result in increased rate of bacterial metabolism, and hence an increased rate in the changes in color of the indicator. The photometric analyzer will then interpret the change in the rate of color formation as a bioagent release event, and send warnings through visual, auditory, and electronic output systems.
The reaction cartridge consists of pre-formulated reagents and connection tubing packaged in aunitized, ruggedized format. Connection of the cartridges to the Biosniffer device is as simple as inserting the cartridge into the machine, and making two simple tubing connections. |
